About Steve
Steve was introduced to soccer by older kids in the neighbourhood. He joined the Weston Creek Soccer Club, beginning with the under eights in 1991.
Year Six saw him leave the small community primary school of Lyons to attend Marist College. Life at Marist went well, and friendships were forged that would last a lifetime. Steve represented the school in soccer and cross country running. During this period, Steve was selected to represent Australia in the Futsal Indoor Soccer and travelled much of the world.
During High School, he furthered his soccer career by first earning a scholarship with the ACT Academy of Sport at age 15, whilst also playing for Marist and for the Canberra club team Juventus.
There were numerous highlights in Steve’s soccer career including selection into the Australian Institute of Sport and in the 16s Identification program to train in the Joeys squad.
Unfortunately, his soccer dreams were cut short when on his year 12 graduation day, he was diagnosed with a stomach tumour. He spent the next three years battling this disease that eventually took his life on the 7th of November in 2004.
Steve's legacy continues to live on in the hearts of his friends, family and anyone who had the opportunity to meet this courageous individual.
So, it is only fitting to celebrate the life of Steve Arnott through one of his biggest passions in life...Soccer.
